Has Lucky Girl's luck run out?
This is one of our favorite cats here at the shelter. Lucky Girl is a well behaved cat, never complaining about anything, never making any messes, and while she is assertive, she's not demanding and does not start fights with the other cats.
She is currently in the vet hospital awaiting her third surgery to again repair the area around the eye she lost from a severe infection after being rescued. However, the procedure needs to be modified to be successful. This requires some research and possibly a consultation with a specialist. This will be very expensive. Since Lucky Girl has done so well in the past and is such a great cat, we are not willing to simply put her down because of the cost. We don't know what the total will be yet, but our goal for now will be to reach $500.
Therefore, we are asking for tiny bits of help from anyone who can possibly spare a dollar or more to help this cat. We have spent all our personal funds on the cats here, including this year's tax refund, and there are still 49 other cats here that need to eat. Unfortunately, as mentioned on the main page, we were not able to become a non-profit organization (lawyer took what we had). So we closed our doors and one individual takes care of the remaining cats personally.
Right now, we are waiting to hear from the vet hospital to see if they found a specialist who is familiar with the unusual procedure she needs.
UPDATE: Contacts with specialists have been exhausted and no one has any good answers. Lucky for Lucky Girl, the veterinarian she's with is committed to developing a procedure that will close the empty eye socket to prevent further infection. It will be a few more weeks before we know if this will work.
FINAL UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who supported Lucky Girl and the extraordinary care she received at the vet's office, she has healed from the latest surgery and has a bright future! In fact, she has even been adopted! While we did not meet our goal for donations for her care, her new home has agreed to cover the balance! Lucky Girl is a lucky girl, indeed!
